GOING AFTER THE LEECHING MOB

The best result from the Presidentail Federal Budget Summit is that the Defense Department is going to be a central focus.

It's about time. The Pentagon has for years been excused from passing audits. It is time to end that.

It is time to stop allowing the defense manufacturers to bleed the budget to where it now is practically past the point of resuscitation. Transfusions are not going to work - there needs to be a rational appraisal of what programs should be eliminated. The variety of conflicts that are likely in today's global instability, are not the type that the Pentagon is prepared for anyhow. Weren't any lessons learned from all the mistakes in Iraq?

Those gigantic items that the likes of Boeing, Northrup, et al rely upon to feed their corporate kitties, need a civilian board to scrutinize what needs to be cancelled, what needs to be dumped forever and what the needs for the reasonable dealing with security will require in the future. They have sucked the department dry and also the patience of citizens like myself.

Alternative Policital Medicine

Smart spending or stupid spending? Is that the question? We have already witnessed two terms of the latter. Now we are to embark on at least one term of the opposite.

Will this "hair of the dog" be the cure for the economic hangover?
Maybe.

There are a number of things that bother me. First, I do not believe that the automakers or the worst banks are indispensable. Too big to fail? But they have.......it is folly to believe otherwise. They have been propped up for years by favored treatment, not by skilled management. If they are going to get government assistance in the billions then the management should be replaced. That is where I stand. Wouldn't it be interesting if those management positions were opened up to bid? Current top dogs need not apply.

That might make life interesting for a while.

A PLACE AT THE TABLE

In respect to the Republicans, isn't it just amazing how knowledgeable they have become since January 20th? You can hear any number of them declaiming on the Senate or House floor that they have the perfect answers as to how our catastrophic problems could and should be solved!

Why don't they have the spine to just admit they are 96% responsible for the mess?

What further heights of hypocrisy can they reach? Did I miss the trickle down cure that was to be a result of giving the top ten percent those tax cuts? They continue to belch out that mantra to the gullible.......and the media aids and abets by booking appearances by the loser McCain and other buddies, lots of them named Jon, John and whom I call the Humpty Dumpty gang.
