Smart spending or stupid spending? Is that the question? We have already witnessed two terms of the latter. Now we are to embark on at least one term of the opposite.
Will this "hair of the dog" be the cure for the economic hangover?
Maybe.
There are a number of things that bother me. First, I do not believe that the automakers or the worst banks are indispensable. Too big to fail? But they have.......it is folly to believe otherwise. They have been propped up for years by favored treatment, not by skilled management. If they are going to get government assistance in the billions then the management should be replaced. That is where I stand. Wouldn't it be interesting if those management positions were opened up to bid? Current top dogs need not apply.
That might make life interesting for a while.
