Slogging in the Senate
Political Potpourri......
I am so impatient with the Congressional slogging.....
The current food fight over whether there can be a vote on the Warner/Levin et al resolution re the so-called "Iraq Surge" and the other one- McCain/Leiberman, which now appear to be contrived as a Republican strategy to avoid going on record that the Senate opposes the president's continued pursuit of some mythical "victory" or "success" as an end to the misbegotten AUMF rages on and on and on.......
Senator Reid is under seige.........McConnell carrying the water for the WH who are desparately orchestrating the warfare in the senate - hoping to derail and thus deny, reality.
The right-wingers can't get anything right, but they learned all the dirty tricks for delaying political action, and they would rather have political warfare than acknowledge what the majority of Americans believe now......that the Iraq fiasco must end and further there are a large percentage that believe it should never have started. I am in the latter group.
There is so much else on the legislative plate that needs attention. The mess must be cleared on the leftovers from the 109th not dealing with appropriations for a large number of budgets for the remainder of '07, and then there is the bulging budget just issued for '08.
It is clear that the strategy for the 110th is for the R's to refine the obstructionist tactic that they accused the D's of practising. Funny isn't it-- NOT!
We are living in dire and deteriorating times, to borrow a phrase currently overused in describing the Iraq quagmire, but it is more apt for describing the state of governance in our republic which is mandated by that document that gets in W's way, the Constitution.
What bothers me too, is the enormous sums that are going to be spent on the '08 campaigns by candidates from both parties. Again, another topic unaddressed and subject to partisan warfare,,,,, campaign finance. That disturbs me just as much as those budget numbers with the eleven zeros telling us that things are going to get much worse. Debt is the fallout from unwise decisions and it is flooding the future for our succeeding generations and may tumble the house of cards when the debt can no longer be marketed abroad.
But hey........ next to political warfare, the next best thing is doctored PR...... the economy is going to be just fine if we just make those tax cuts for the super rich, permanent.
Oh Sure.........Sounds sort of Norquistian, extrapolate to no taxes...... ERGO.....no government. The neo-con dream.........but you may think you are having a nightmare if you are into reality.
Better to keep your eyes open and not go to sleep.
