Irrigation System Replacement

Finally, I wearied of trying to prolong the death of the twenty-year old irrigation system in the desert yard of my residence. For the past several years it has been a stream of one handyperson after another, and some did not do a very professional job and then the system just became so ridden with leaks that if one or two were repaired, soon there were again just as many to be fixed. The final straw was having the controls also succumbing to aging.

Now that I have had it completely replaced with better materials and all new controls, I can again go on vacation or travel without concern as to whether there might be an irrigation catastrophe while away.

The original was done with only poly piping, this time I used Sched 40 PVC and bubbler heads instead of drip emitters. More rabbit proof. Rabbits frequently gnawed holes in the above ground tubing to the previous emitters. You can't blame the creatures, they are instinctually seeking water, I think they can even smell it through the tubing, certainly there was evidence in the past that they would scratch away at the rock landscape surface to find those sources even when disguised under the rocks.

Ah, ...... the price of peace of mind.

Relief at Election Results

One change that I really was pulling for didn't happen but overall this is a wonderful "day after"

And it is delightful to have the telly on and not be bombarded with the attack ads.

The results give me hope that our Constitution will again become the law of all.

When the Congress resumes sessions I will be eagerly watching on C-Span and C-Span 2 for the live coverage, it will be refreshing to experience the absence of Frist and Hastert in their (ahem!) roles as leaders of the majority and see them take the role of minority.

America can be optimistic and hopeful once again, and little by little the respect over the planet will be restored, may it never again suffer from the wrong-headed non-leadership adiministration now, (to borrow a phrase associated with Cheney), in its last throes!

Electoral Apprehensions

This suspense over how the election results will affect this country has me feeling like I'm experiencing the rack.

For the sake of the survival of the Constitution and our democratic republic I feel it is imperative to have sweeping change. But I am all too aware of how the game is played by the party in power. The media is still manipulated into covering all the appearances by the "ins" making it even more of an uphill climb for the change that is absolutely necessary for finding a way out of this miasma created in the last six years.

I am getting too old to consider becoming an ex-pat but if the present administration continues to hold, then I may feel it a necessity for my own peace of mind.

Let's hope an honest count and no machine hacking will result in new hope for the future of the nation.
